Opportunities for Students

    Engineering Bursary Scheme

    To meet the growing demand for engineers, Valero provides scholarships to exceptional Pembrokeshire students intending to study Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering at a UK accredited University.

    Engineering bursary students receive:

    • £3,000 per academic year
    • Paid employment during summer holidays
    • Confirmed "Year in Industry" placement
    • Dedicated mentoring contact at Valero

    Students will get the opportunity to work on a variety of technical projects at the refinery that will give knowledge and experience to support academic studies.

    After graduation, students will be entered into the graduate recruitment selection process where performance feedback is reviewed for potential new hires.

  • Year-Long Paid Industrial Placements in Engineering

    To meet the growing demand for engineers, Valero offers year-long paid industrial placements to Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering undergraduates studying at a UK accredited University.

    Students get the opportunity to work on a variety of technical projects that improve technical ability and contribute toward achieving professional registration. Each student is assigned a dedicated mentor who will be on hand to help with technical development and provide support through the adjustment to living and working in Pembrokeshire. Along with attending workshops on topics such as time management, navigating change and presentations skills, the day-to-day experiences of life as an engineer will support your personal development.

    Working alongside our experienced engineers will put academic skills into practice in a dynamic, challenging and rewarding environment.

    Apprenticeships in Operations and Maintenance

    Participants specialize in either operations or one of our maintenance disciplines (mechanical, electrical or instrumentation). Successful apprentices are keen to learn and demonstrate a drive to develop. Apprentices are continuously assessed throughout the program via observations, assignments, on-the-job reports and examinations.

    During the first year:

    Apprentices will be full-time at Pembrokeshire College, learning a broad range of topics relevant to the refinery as well as spending time in the workshop to develop hands-on skills.

    After the first year:

    Academic learning continues on a day-release basis, with the remainder of time being based on-site. Throughout the apprenticeship, students complete a range of relevant industry-recognized qualifications and learn on-the-job alongside some of the industry’s best operators and maintenance technicians in a dynamic, challenging and rewarding environment.

  • IT Apprenticeships

    IT (Information Technology) apprentices spend time with our Customer Support team, who provide both global and local front-line technical support. Apprentices rotate around the business, gaining an insight into the many specialist roles carried out by our dedicated IS (Information Services) team.

    During the first year:

    Apprentices will be full-time at Pembrokeshire College, learning a broad range of IT topics relevant to the refinery.

    After the first year:

    Academic learning then continues on a day-release basis where IT apprentices complete a range of relevant qualifications. The remainder of time is based on-site, where apprentices are assigned a dedicated expert mentor to support the learning journey on-the-job.

    Expect to be continuously assessed throughout the apprenticeship program via observations, assignments, on the job reports and examinations.

Who We Are

Team Valero volunteers time in the Pembrokeshire community and helps with tasks including tree planting, beach clean-ups, painting and redecorating schools and community centers. Annually, the refinery’s community engagement program supports local and national charities with over £1 million in donations over the past five years.

    In connection with an application or inquiry submitted to us online we will use your information to (a) process your interest in a placement and administer our work experience, bursary and year in industry programmes. We may also use or share this information throughout Company, including within our subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide, for the purpose of the apprenticeship scheme consideration. We will only disclose such information to third parties who assist us in making employment decisions or verifying your application information, or to other third parties where you have given your consent. For example, we may disclose this information to recruitment consultants, or to employment screening companies that help us verify the information you have provided to us. These parties are subject to confidentiality obligations.

    We must have a legal basis to process your personal information. In most cases the legal basis will be one of the following:

    1. Your consent which you may withdraw at any time. Please note a withdrawal of consent may result in the end of your apprenticeship application with us.

    2. To comply with our legal obligations for example, obligations relating to taxation, financial reporting and court orders.

    3. To meet our legitimate interests, for example to understand how you use our services and to enable us to derive knowledge from that to enable us to develop new services.     Company is headquartered in the United States and has affiliates and subsidiaries worldwide, including in Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Aruba.

    Personal data we process may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Valero Energy Ltd or its subsidiaries, affiliates, or joint ventures maintain facilities (some of which do not have the same laws in place to protect data).     We do not knowingly collect personal data from any children under the age of 16. If one of our websites is directed at children, we will include an additional privacy statement notice for children on that website.
