As part of Valero's ongoing efforts to improve emergency response, the Valero Corpus Christi Refineries hosted more than 15 outside organizations and companies to participate in a large-scale, multi-agency drill in March 2024 held at the Texas State Aquarium.
“This drill was nine months in the making by our health and safety team. It was a good challenge, and it brought us together with a number of outside partners to help make us all stronger and better, together," said Joe Almaraz, Director of Environmental and Safety Affairs, Valero Corpus Christi Refineries. “It was successful and we appreciate everyone's support."
“Conducting well-executed training exercises is imperative to build resilience and to validate our preparedness investments. While training alongside your response partners and regulators can be challenging, doing so demonstrates your commitment to the community and builds trusted relationships that will prove critical to our success during a crisis, said Danielle Hale, Director of Emergency Management, Port Corpus Christi. “We are proud of the team at Valero Corpus Christi Refineries and look forward to additional collaborative training opportunities in the future."
Among the organizations that participated was the Texas State Aquarium, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Texas General Land Office (TGLO), Port Corpus Christi, Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC), Nueces County Emergency Management, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
