The second annual “Geared for Success” Contractor Safety Summit was recently held in San Antonio, Texas, last month. More than 110 attendees, including Valero staff and representatives from 29 Valero contractors participated in the two-day event hosted by Valero’s Corporate Health and Safety team.

Attendees received presentations by Valero leadership on that included Valero’s Goal Zero program, Human Organizational Performance, Environmental Social and Governance (ESG), the state of the business, and the importance of the relationship between our contractor partners and Valero.

In addition, the seminar also provided companies an opportunity to network, share best practices and learn about new safety standards. Contractors also shared industry-related experiences on new and improved processes, their successes and how they continue to evolve.

Cajun Industries, LLC. discussed how they reduced their soft tissue injuries by 70% since implementing their “stretch and flex” program. This program has employees completing a series of stretches before starting their jobs for the day.

Another business partner, Brock, shared how their “SHARP” (Safety Hazard Analysis and Recognition Plan) program improves focus on identifying and controlling hazards.

Rounding out the presentations was BrandSafway, who spoke on employees being cognizant of repetitive tasks. The whole effort is intended to drive a healthy questioning attitude and a heightened sense of awareness when approaching work in the field.

Guests provided positive feedback that the event gets better year over year, and they look forward to the 2025 Summit.

Recently, a number of our business partners received awards from American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) for their contractor safety records in 2023. We salute these companies for making safety their number one priority. Click here to see a full list of AFPM Contractor Safety Achievement Award winners.
